Kazakhstan's top-ranked Elena Rybakina earned a record $5.5 million for winning the 2026 US Open, equivalent to about 2.48 billion tenge at the current exchange rate, infohub.kz reports.
US Open organizers set the largest prize pool in tennis history this season at $108 million. As the singles champion, Rybakina received her share of that sum.
The Kazakh tennis player will thus break her own world record for prize money at a single women's tennis tournament. She previously held the mark: her victory at the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Finals last season earned her $5.235 million.
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who lost to Rybakina in the US Open final, earned $2.8 million from the major.
Kazakhstan's second-ranked singles player, Yulia Putintseva, was eliminated in the second round. That result brought her $190,000.
The country's top doubles player, Anna Danilina, also exited in the second round. Together with Serbia's Aleksandra Krunić, she earned $50,000.
