Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has signed a decree governing the presidential election scheduled for January 27, 2027. The document imposes a direct ban on involving public-sector workers in election campaigning, infohub.kz reports.
Under the decree on measures to ensure free and transparent presidential elections, it is prohibited to enlist teachers, schoolchildren, lecturers, students, medical workers, social service employees, as well as employees of other state and municipal organizations, to campaign in favor of candidates.
The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to hold officials who unlawfully take part in campaigning or use their official position in the interests of candidates to disciplinary account. Where necessary, such managers and employees will be dismissed from their posts.
"The decree is also aimed at preventing interference by state and municipal bodies in the electoral process and the use of administrative resources. The Central Election Commission has been recommended to take additional measures to ensure the uniform application of legislation and to inform citizens. The document provides for the participation of international observers in accordance with Kyrgyz legislation," the statement says.
Recall that about a month ago, Sadyr Japarov officially confirmed that he would take part in the country's presidential election in January 2027.
