More than a hundred people gathered at a lookout point in San Francisco to simultaneously release their pent-up frustration with a loud scream toward the Pacific Ocean, according to infohub.kz.
The unusual event, called "Guttural Scream by the Sea," was initiated by local resident Danielle Egan. She said the modern world offers plenty of sources of stress — from high rent to anxieties about the rise of artificial intelligence. The organizer decided that venting emotions in the company of like-minded people would be far more effective and fun.
Before the collective expression of emotion, participants held a competition for the best scream. Judges rated contestants on volume, duration, and originality. Olivia Guglielmotto won the contest, with her vocalization reaching 121.9 decibels. As a prize for the loudest scream, she was given a megaphone.
The gathering ended with a collective synchronized scream that lasted about a minute. Afterwards, participants were able to socialize and swim in the ocean. The organizers hope such gatherings will help people cope with psychological tension.
