A double crime has unfolded in the Russian city of St. Petersburg: a female courier carrying 3 million rubles collected from a pensioner was herself robbed. The money, it turned out, was intended for scammers who had defrauded the elderly woman, according to infohub.kz.
According to RIA Novosti, St. Petersburg police have detained two men suspected of robbing a local resident. The woman was robbed of a bag containing money she was supposed to hand over to scammers.
A 38-year-old woman contacted law enforcement after a bag of money was snatched from her on Grazhdansky Prospekt the previous day, with the attacker pushing her in the back. Investigators determined that the complainant worked as a courier and lost a package she had earlier received from a 76-year-old local resident.
The pensioner, who also filed a police report, said unknown individuals had persuaded her to hand over more than 3 million rubles to the courier under the pretext of "declaring" her savings supposedly to keep them safe. A criminal case has been opened under the article on attempted fraud.
Two men detained on suspicion of robbing the scammers' courier are the subjects of a separate criminal case. The courier has been placed under a procedural measure of restraint in the form of an obligation to appear.
