A criminal trial of Sanzhar Bokaev, former adviser to the general director of KazTransGas JSC, is continuing in Almaty. While reading the charges, the prosecutor detailed schemes involving fraud, money laundering, organizing the theft of granite slabs, illegal tree felling, and the deliberate dissemination of knowingly false information, according to infohub.kz.

The prosecution representative noted that after the successful staging of the granite slab theft, Bokaev decided to continue creating fake scandals through criminal means.

In the fall of 2025, he planned an information attack on the construction company Bazis-A and government agencies involved in the improvement of Baum Grove. A meeting with residents of the Turksib district was scheduled for October 26, and on the eve of that event Bokaev intended to provoke a scandal. His plan was to secretly cut down trees and then loudly claim that the grove was being barbarically and illegally destroyed to make way for commercial real estate.

To carry out the plan, Bokaev and his personal videographer U. Nusipkozha again turned to A. Khamrakulov — the same man who had previously helped them with the granite slab theft. The clients handed over the money, and Khamrakulov bought a chainsaw at one of the city's pawnshops.

Late in the evening of October 24, 2025, people hired by Khamrakulov secretly entered Baum Grove. Over two and a half hours, they deliberately cut down and damaged 16 trees, including maples, acacias, and elms. That same night, on October 25, immediately after the crime, Nusipkozha met with the perpetrators and paid them 100,000 tenge.

Once satisfied that everything had been done, the organizers moved to the public part of the plan. That same night, Bokaev and Nusipkozha staged the receipt of an anonymous message about the tree felling, supposedly sent to a phone from a foreign number. They arrived at the grove with flashlights and filmed a video in which they staged a chase after "unknown criminals."

The next day, October 26, right before the meeting with district residents, Bokaev brought public activists to the grove to show them the trees cut down on his own orders. On camera, he claimed that the trees were being destroyed by certain interested parties to clear the site for residential complexes.

Bokaev published this edited video on his Instagram page. The prosecution believes he posed as a defender of public interests and deliberately misled his audience.

The prosecutor emphasized that this self-promotion resulted in real damage to nature and the Medeu State Nature Park. Accordingly, Bokaev and Nusipkozha were charged with illegal felling and destruction of trees committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy.

Recall that former top manager and public figure Sanzhar Bokaev is suspected under several articles at once — fraud, theft, money laundering, illegal logging, and dissemination of knowingly false information (Articles 190, 188, 218, 340, and 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan).

The investigation also believes that Bokaev may have organized and financed unlawful actions by recruiting people with low incomes.

In court, the prosecutor also detailed the prosecution's account of how Bokaev stole millions through a shell company belonging to a relative.
