A Saudi reconnaissance helicopter has crashed, with the Ministry of Defense attributing the disaster to a technical malfunction, infohub.kz reports.
Major General Turki al-Maliki, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab coalition, commented on the incident on social media.
According to his statement, two crew members were aboard the downed AH-6i helicopter, and both were killed. The aircraft came down in territory controlled by the Saudi National Guard Ministry.
The crash occurred amid an escalation of conflict in the region. In recent weeks, the Najran area has come under attack by the Houthis.
Earlier, at least 12 people were killed and another 309 wounded in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Responsibility for the attack has been placed on Yemen's Houthis, who fired a missile at the facility. Several Arab airlines subsequently suspended or canceled flights to Saudi Arabia.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan issued an advisory to the country's citizens in connection with the attacks on civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
Days ago, air defense forces shot down two missiles over the Saudi capital, and falling debris injured residents and damaged homes.
