In the village of Nura in the Almaty region, repairs to the only school have been ongoing for over three years, forcing children to study in unsuitable conditions, reports infohub.kz.
The only school in the village was closed for repairs in 2023, with completion promised within a year. However, more than three years have passed since then. While the building sat idle, children attended classes in the local House of Culture, the akimat (village administration), and a grocery store. According to the school's director, repairs are promised to be completed by August 25.
"My youngest child is going into second grade. He studied in a store, the conditions are very poor. Two or three children sit at one desk, and lessons last only two hours," said Nadira Nurdanova, a village resident.
The director says that studying in such conditions for several years was due to a dishonest contractor. He stated that the contract with the old company was terminated, and other contractors were brought in.
"The repair was supposed to be finished in 2024. But the contractor worked poorly and didn't meet deadlines, so everything dragged on. Initially, 1.1 billion tenge was allocated for the school. I don't know if additional funds were provided. Currently, 31 people are working, and 20 more will be added. They promise to finish on time, by August 25. I hope they complete it soon," commented Yerzhan Nusipzhanov, director of Secondary School No. 12.
Parents do not believe the work will be completed soon. Moreover, they are no longer willing to send their children to the local House of Culture, akimat, or store.
