A driver in the Mangystau Region was unable to continue his journey after being stung by a scorpion — the incident occurred on October 11 near an enterprise in the Aktau area, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to Lada.kz, the man fell ill while behind the wheel. The regional emergency medical services station said that after the sting he began to feel unwell and reported that he could not drive.
"An ambulance was called to the scene. The victim was taken to hospital. He received the necessary medical care and was sent home for outpatient treatment," the publication said.
Mark Pestov, a candidate of biological sciences, said that when encountering a scorpion, one should act carefully and cautiously. The sting may feel like a mildly painful prick. Pain, painful swelling at the site and anxiety linked to the venom's effect on the nervous system may persist for several hours.
"It is necessary to stay calm and try to move the affected limb as little as possible. The sting site should also be washed with soap and water. Apply a cold compress wrapped in cloth to reduce pain and swelling. Do not try to cut or cauterize the sting site, or suck out the venom. An ambulance should be called immediately," the publication added.
