A resident of Semey has been sentenced to 300 hours of community service over a domestic conflict that ended with his wife being injured, infohub.kz reports.
According to NUR.KZ, citing the Department of the Penal Enforcement System for the Abai Region, the 34-year-old man and his friends decided to celebrate his wife's birthday. When the couple were alone, they began talking about her ex-boyfriend. Jealousy sparked a verbal argument that quickly escalated into a fight.
During the quarrel, the man struck his wife in the face several times, causing moderate bodily harm.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 300 hours of community service. The convicted man was registered with the probation service of the Zaton district of Semey. During registration, he was given a preventive and explanatory talk about how the sentence would be carried out.
"I understand I did the wrong thing. I gave in to my emotions and jealousy and couldn't control myself. Now I understand I should have calmly talked to my wife instead of letting things get to that point. After what happened, my wife filed for divorce and moved to another city. It's hard for me to accept that it ended this way. Now I have to answer for what I did and serve my sentence. This situation has been a serious lesson for me. Once I finish my community service, I will do everything I can to win my wife back and restore our relationship. I want to prove to her that I have realized my mistake and will never do anything like this again. I have understood that family problems must be solved through words, with respect for each other, not through force," the convicted man said.
