A court in Semey has concluded the trial in the murder case of 20-year-old Dilnaz Zhumagulova. Her ex-boyfriend was sentenced to 14 years in prison, infohub.kz reports.

The court found the defendant guilty under Part 1 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code and imposed a sentence of 14 years in a medium-security correctional facility. Judge Niyaz Khasenbayev delivered the verdict.

The court declined to reclassify the case as murder with extreme cruelty, as the victim's relatives had insisted.

Dilnaz Zhumagulova was 20 years old. The tragedy occurred on the night of July 13 in the village of Borodulikha. The girl had an argument with her ex-boyfriend, whom she had known since school.

According to the court, Dilnaz was the first to slap the young man. He struck her back and then grabbed a knife. He first wounded her in the neck, damaging an artery, then continued to stab her and hit her on the head.

After the murder, the man tried to drag the body away to dispose of it, but ultimately left it in the middle of the road. Despite the circumstances of the crime, the court did not find signs of extreme cruelty.

"To find him guilty of the crime under Part 1 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code and sentence him to 14 years in prison to be served in a medium-security correctional facility," Judge Niyaz Khasenbayev announced.

In addition, the convicted man was ordered to pay the victims—the girl's relatives—20 million tenge in moral damages, over one million in material damages, and 500,000 tenge for legal representation. It is not yet clear whether Dilnaz's parents will appeal the verdict.

"Since the case came under Part 1 of Article 99... Yes, so, yes, we are satisfied. Because it's from 8 to 15. The prosecutor asked for 14 years and 6 months. The judge gave 14 years. I will appeal to higher authorities, I will consult with lawyers there. She fought for her life. There were signs of struggle in two places, then he stabbed her with a knife," said the victim's father, Sabyrzhan Temirkhan.

The trial confirmed that the defendant's guilt was fully proven. But the young man admitted it only partially. The verdict has not yet entered into force. The parties have time to appeal.
