In Semey, a court has sentenced a man who beat his ex-wife to death with a wooden bat. The defendant was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 12 years in prison, reports infohub.kz.
The tragedy occurred in April. A drunk man, driven by jealousy, attacked his ex-wife right in the yard of the house where she lived with her children. He struck the woman 27 times with the bat, and she died at the scene.
In court, the victim's relatives said that the man had abused her for years, continued to be jealous and make scenes even after the divorce. Two minor children were left without a mother.
During the trial, the 51-year-old defendant fully admitted his guilt and repented. In addition to the prison term, the court ordered him to pay the victim's brother 10 million tenge in compensation for moral damages.
Zhanar Nurgazinova, a relative of the victim, expressed satisfaction with the verdict: "I fully agree with this court decision, because this is the punishment we were seeking. As for the children, we were told in court to gather all necessary documents as soon as possible. Now we will work with the guardianship and trusteeship authorities."
