A court in Semey has sentenced former law enforcement officers who left their newborn daughter to die in a trash container, infohub.kz reports.

The infant's body was found in a trash container in winter. Today the court ruled: the father was sentenced to life imprisonment, while the mother was covered by an amnesty.

According to the investigation, the woman hid her pregnancy and gave birth to her daughter at home. She later claimed the child was born without signs of life. However, investigators proved the infant died of hypothermia. It also emerged that the girl's father was involved in her death — it was he who left her in the trash bin.

Notably, both parents worked in law enforcement. The court stripped them of their special ranks. The 21-year-old mother was sentenced to two years in prison, but was covered by an amnesty. The 26-year-old father will spend the rest of his life in prison.

"Find him guilty of the crime under Part 3 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and sentence him to life imprisonment," the judge read out the verdict.

Recall that in February of this year, the body of a newborn was found in a trash container in Semey. Information immediately appeared online that the suspects were police officers and that they were not even placed in a temporary detention facility. The Abai Region Police Department denied these rumors at the time.
