Residents of the capital are lining up for kilometers to get a lip gloss being given away at Coffee Boom coffee shops. The hype was sparked by a collaboration with the Kazakh cosmetics brand Sen Sulu, reports infohub.kz.
Numerous photos and videos have appeared on social media showing hundreds of people waiting in line to buy a promotional drink and receive a mini lip gloss as a gift. Some users said they arrived at the coffee shop before it opened, but the line was so long that they decided to leave empty-handed. According to one visitor, by the time she returned, the line stretched down the entire street.
A debate has erupted on social media over whether the gift was worth the frenzy. The organizers of the promotion promised to give a mini lip gloss to everyone who bought the promotional drink.
The free gloss promotion seems to have quickly overshadowed the brand's previous "cancellations" on social media. Just a couple of months ago, Sen Sulu was hit by one of the most high-profile attacks in the Kazakh segment of the internet. Users called for a boycott of the brand after a contest for bloggers that many considered unfair.
Earlier, the brand was at the center of another scandal over an advertising collaboration with Russian blogger Valya Karnaval. After a wave of criticism, Sen Sulu removed the promotional posts featuring her.
