North Korea announced the successful test of a new high-precision guided torpedo, the "Cham-2.0," equipped with artificial intelligence for target detection and guidance, according to infohub.kz.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that the underwater test launch took place on October 15. According to the North Korean agency, the launch was conducted to verify technical improvements to the torpedo system.

"AI technology was applied to the target detection and guidance functions of the new supersonic high-precision guided torpedo," KCNA said in a statement cited by Yonhap.

Reuters, citing KCNA, noted that the test confirmed the effectiveness of the propulsion technology, which has been refined through more than 180 tests over the past five years, as well as the performance of the torpedo's rocket motor.

Pyongyang called the test successful and said it marked a significant step in the development of the country's naval forces. The work was carried out as part of defense research to improve weapons.

Earlier, North Korea reported testing two types of submarine-launched strategic cruise missiles. Those launches took place on October 14 and, according to the North Korean side, were aimed at verifying the combat capabilities of the fleet.
