Kazakh tennis player Alexander Shevchenko (world No. 100) advanced to the semifinals of the ATP 250 Swiss Open Gstaad 2026 after winning two matches in one day, reports infohub.kz.

First, Shevchenko completed a rain-delayed match against Switzerland's Dominic Stricker (No. 360) with a score of 7:6 (7:5), 6:2. Then, in the quarterfinals, he defeated France's Quentin Halys (No. 90) 7:6 (7:5), 6:3. The match lasted 1 hour 37 minutes. Shevchenko trailed in aces (4:7) but led in break points (1:0) and total points won (75:64).

Earlier in the day, Halys had defeated Kazakhstan's top-ranked player, Alexander Bublik (No. 11), in a match that had started the previous day: 6:7 (4:7), 6:4, 7:6 (7:5). As a result, Bublik failed to defend his title in Gstaad. However, the trophy could still go to Kazakhstan, as Shevchenko's semifinal opponent is yet to be determined.

The Swiss Open Gstaad, Switzerland's open tennis championship, has been held since 1915. Over the years, the Swiss Open Gstaad has been won by Switzerland's Roger Federer, Russia's Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Sweden's Stefan Edberg, Argentina's Guillermo Vilas and other stars.
