Kazakhstani track and field athlete Mariya Shuvalova finished sixth in the women's 400m final at the 20th Asian Summer Games 2026, hosted by Japan's Aichi-Nagoya region, infohub.kz reports.
She completed the distance in 53.59 seconds but missed out on a podium finish.
Salwa Naser of Bahrain won gold with a new Asian Games record of 49.20 seconds. Iran's Zahra Zarei Manoujan took silver (52.38), and India's Prachi claimed bronze (53.21).
Another Kazakhstani athlete, Ivan Ivanov, competed in the shot put final. His best attempt of 18.46 meters earned him ninth place.
Iran's Mohammadreza Tayebi won the event with a new Asian Games record of 20.81 meters. India's Tajinderpal Singh Toor took silver (20.64), and Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Tolu completed the podium (20.48).
Also on Saturday, the 110m hurdles qualification took place. 2024 Olympian David Yefremov finished the distance in 14 seconds, placed 14th, and did not advance to the final.
