The main trial in the case of the death of 21-year-old Nurai Serikbai will begin on July 28. This decision was made during a preliminary hearing on July 23 in Shymkent, reports infohub.kz.

At the hearing, the victim's lawyer Ayanakhan Omarov petitioned for a live online broadcast of the proceedings. In his opinion, an open broadcast is important for society and will clearly show what liability is provided in Kazakhstan for stalking. The defense of the defendant categorically opposed. Judge Sammidin Temiraliev denied the request, but noted that journalists can personally be present in the courtroom.

The investigation charged the defendant under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Article 115-1 (stalking), Article 125-1 (forced marriage), and Paragraph 5 of Part 2 of Article 99 (murder committed with extreme cruelty).

The tragedy occurred on the evening of January 11, 2026 in Shymkent. An acquaintance of Nurai inflicted fatal stab wounds on her, after which he fled. He was arrested two days later.
