Surgeons at the First City Clinical Hospital in Shymkent have performed a kidney transplant on a patient with end-stage renal failure who had depended on hemodialysis for years. The organ was transplanted from a related donor, infohub.kz reports.
According to the city's health department, the patient's primary diagnosis was chronic end-stage renal failure resulting from tubulointerstitial nephritis.
Before the surgery, both patients underwent thorough medical examinations and signed all necessary documents. The transplant itself was successful, and both the donor and recipient are now under doctors' supervision in intensive care.
According to the medics, both patients are in stable condition, with all vital signs normal. The transplanted kidney is already functioning properly and doing its job. The patients continue to receive necessary treatment under specialist care.
According to the Shymkent akimat, this is the 255th successful kidney transplant performed by Shymkent surgeons.
As the Ministry of Health reported earlier, since the beginning of the year, 132 potential posthumous donors have been identified in Kazakhstan. In total, doctors have performed 205 transplants during this period. Notably, there were 13 cases of multi-organ donation. The organs of these deceased individuals saved 42 lives: surgeons transplanted 14 kidneys, 11 hearts, nine livers, four lungs, and four corneas.
Kursiv previously reported that in the capital, one donor gave life to three Kazakhstanis who had been on the waiting list for a long time. During a single donation process, a heart, lung, and liver were retrieved for transplantation to three patients.
