Two illegal online casinos with a combined turnover of 3.1 billion tenge have been shut down in Shymkent. A verdict has been handed down in the case, infohub.kz reports.
According to the official Telegram channel of the Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM), the AFM's Shymkent department completed an investigation into the operation of illegal gambling businesses through the online platforms "Bingo-37" and "Lotoboom".
"Potential players were sent messages via WhatsApp offering them to participate in gambling. After responding, the player was given an account, login, password, and bank account details for transferring funds," the AFM said.
According to the agency, bank accounts opened in the names of 14 droppers were used to receive funds and pay out winnings. The total turnover of the two online casinos amounted to 3.1 billion tenge.
The organizers used their criminal proceeds to purchase property worth over 200 million tenge, including BYD Destroyer, LiXiang L6 Max, Chevrolet Monza, and SsangYong Rexton vehicles, as well as two land plots.
The court sentenced two individuals to 4 years in prison. The said property was confiscated to the state. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
