A minor in Shymkent who believed social media ads about "easy money" ended up in the dock on charges of selling psychotropic substances and was sentenced to 5 years in prison, infohub.kz reports.
According to the city prosecutor's office's official website, on August 27, 2026, a specialized interdistrict court for juvenile cases in Shymkent handed down a verdict against a minor who had been selling psychotropic substances.
"The teenager was promised earnings of 30,000–40,000 tenge per day for placing psychotropic substances at specified locations. He subsequently sold psychotropic substances for 51,500 tenge," the supervisory authority said.
The court qualified his actions under Part 1 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and imposed a sentence of 5 years of imprisonment.
The prosecutor's office urged young people not to trust dubious social media offers of "quick and easy money."
The agency reminded that illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, and sale of narcotic drugs entail criminal liability.
