Genealogists at MyHeritage have determined that Sydney Sweeney, the 29-year-old star of the series "Euphoria," is related to legendary Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe, according to infohub.kz.

As Page Six reports, the line of kinship runs through the paternal side. Sweeney's father, Steven Sweeney, and Monroe's biological father, Charles Stanley Gifford, share a common ancestor — Ezra Perry, one of the first settlers of the town of Sandwich in Massachusetts.

The connection is a very distant one: Ezra Perry lived back in the 17th century, making Sweeney and Monroe very distant relatives.

Fans had noted the resemblance between the two actresses long before the genealogical discovery. Both are known for their blonde hair and striking looks, though they are naturally brunettes. Both became sex symbols of their era, and their appearance was discussed no less than their acting work.

Sweeney has appeared in public more than once in looks reminiscent of Monroe. In February she walked the red carpet in a vintage dress inspired by Monroe's image. At the premiere of the film "The Housemaid" in December 2025, the actress chose an outfit similar to Monroe's famous white dress from the film "The Seven Year Itch."

Monroe died in 1962 at the age of 36. Over the course of her career she became one of Hollywood's biggest stars, appearing in such films as "Some Like It Hot," "How to Marry a Millionaire" and "The Misfits."

Sweeney gained widespread fame for her roles in the series "Euphoria" and "The White Lotus." She is now also described as one of Hollywood's leading young stars.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle wrote that actress Sydney Sweeney found herself at the center of a scandal after appearing in an advertisement for a bookmaker. In the video, the actress, semi-nude, portrays taking part in various sports, which drew a sharp reaction from female athletes.
