A British woman managed to pay off a $25,000 debt in just five months by selling unwanted items and overhauling her spending habits, reports infohub.kz.

Financial troubles began for the 32-year-old UK resident after she became a single mother in 2022. To cover daily expenses, she took out two loans totaling £23,000. The situation was worsened by impulsive purchases, food delivery costs, and the use of three credit cards. Despite working at a bank and understanding financial mechanisms, by April she found herself in a dire situation.

To tackle the debt, Ellie decided to declutter her life. She conducted a thorough audit of her home and listed 410 items on online platforms. The items included clothing, toys, jewelry, kitchen appliances, and decor. Additionally, she tapped into investments from her workplace, directing £11,333 from stocks and bonds toward loan repayment.

The woman also completely revamped her lifestyle and cut everyday expenses. Instead of ordering takeout, she began meal prepping and freezing homemade dishes. She started documenting her decluttering journey and battle against compulsive shopping on TikTok. Blogging helped her find like-minded individuals and maintain discipline on her path to financial freedom.
