Nearly a month after the deadly crash on the Almaty-Khorgos highway, the sister of one of the victims shared new investigation details on social media. Earlier, relatives of the deceased said that a drunk law enforcement officer was behind the wheel of the Haval, reports infohub.kz.
According to the sister, a forensic chemical test found 3.3 promille of alcohol in the suspect's blood. Experts also inspected the Haval vehicle, which relatives say was driven by a police major. They determined the car was in working order, ruling out a sudden mechanical failure.
Additionally, the woman said on social media that investigators have received forensic medical reports confirming serious injuries to the children who survived the crash. However, the children have not yet been questioned.
Law enforcement is investigating the case under Article 345-1, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan, which covers traffic violations by a drunk driver resulting in the death of two or more people.
“Behind every report are three lost lives, children left without parents, and a family that lives with this pain every day. It is very important for us that the investigation is objective and thorough, and that no one, regardless of their position, rank, or past achievements, can evade accountability once their guilt is proven in court,” the relative wrote.
Earlier, it was reported that the fatal crash occurred on June 23 at the 132nd kilometer of the Almaty-Shelek-Khorgos highway.
