In Astana, a video surveillance system with facial recognition technology helped detain a man who was on the international wanted list, reports infohub.kz.
According to Polisia.kz, the video surveillance system with facial recognition allows for the rapid identification of wanted individuals, missing persons, violators of migration laws, and other categories of persons under police supervision.
"The system automatically matches images with existing databases. Search is possible not only by photo but also by physical attributes such as gender, age, presence of a beard, glasses, mask, or headwear. The technology also allows tracking the movement route of a recognized person through surveillance cameras. The effectiveness of the digital solution is confirmed by concrete results. For instance, during video monitoring, the system recognized a 40-year-old woman. Visual verification confirmed the match," the statement said.
In another case, the system recognized a 34-year-old man who had fled from court. The information was promptly verified by police officers. During operational search activities, the man was detained.
In yet another case, the system recognized a 24-year-old man who was on the international wanted list on suspicion of committing theft. The information was checked by police, after which the man was detained.
"Digital technologies help reduce the time from detecting a person to taking necessary measures, increasing the efficiency of law enforcement agencies," police added.
