A smartphone dropped from an altitude of 30,607 meters over Sweden landed in the wilderness without damage and continued to work, reports infohub.kz.
Case manufacturer RHINOSHIELD, together with British company Sent Into Space, set a record for the highest fall of a mobile phone in a case onto natural terrain. On June 24, 2026, near the Swedish city of Kiruna, the device was lifted into the stratosphere on a special weather balloon and then dropped. The fall occurred from an altitude of 30,607 meters, more than three times the cruising altitude of commercial aircraft.
According to Guinness World Records rules, the use of a parachute was strictly prohibited. The AirX case, made from a single recyclable material, was designed to absorb the main impact upon landing. Before the launch, the team conducted tests for resistance to extremely low temperatures and pressure changes.
The device landed in a remote area near the Esrange Space Center. The search team spent more than five hours locating the phone. After recovery, the gadget was found to be fully functional.
