A biographical film about rapper Snoop Dogg, titled "Snoop," is set for a worldwide release on August 6, 2027, according to infohub.kz.
Deadline reports that the film will receive an R rating. It marks the first collaboration between Universal Pictures and Death Row Pictures, the label owned by Snoop Dogg. Craig Brewer, known for "The Legend of Tarzan," "Katy Perry: Part of Me," and "The Melody of Their Dreams," will direct from a script by Joe Robert Cole. Jonathan Daviss, recognizable from the series "Outer Banks," will play a young Snoop Dogg. The producing team includes Snoop Dogg himself, Death Row Pictures head Sara Ramaker, and Brian Grazer, who previously produced the Eminem film "8 Mile."
The plot will cover the rapper's journey from the early 1990s, when he began working with Dr. Dre and recorded his first hits. The film will chart his transformation from an ordinary teen into a gangsta rap icon, a successful businessman, and a global media mogul. It will feature his most famous tracks, including "Drop It Like It's Hot," "Gin and Juice," "What's My Name," and "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang." Filming is scheduled to begin in summer 2026.
Kazakh audiences may recall Snoop Dogg's collaboration with the group "KeshYOU." In summer 2024, they released a joint music video for the track "Forever Sunday," in which the rapper wore a Kazakh chapan. Despite a high-profile announcement by producer Bayan Alaguzova, the video received a lukewarm reception on social media. Many listeners felt the song did not live up to the hype and quickly faded without becoming a major hit. Still, the involvement of a world-class artist in the project was a notable event.
Earlier, it was reported that American rapper RBX, Snoop Dogg's cousin, lost a lawsuit against Spotify. He accused the streaming service of failing to combat artificial play count inflation, which he claimed caused other artists to lose part of their income.
