Kazakhstani figure skater Sofia Samodelkina will compete at the Skate Canada International 2026 Grand Prix event, to be held in Kelowna, Canada, from October 30 to November 1. The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced this, according to infohub.kz.
Samodelkina will represent Kazakhstan in women's singles. As sports media note, at the Canadian event she plans to increase the difficulty of her program and will attempt to include a triple axel—an ultra-c element that is currently in working condition.
Immediately after competing in Kelowna, the skater will head to the United States, where she will take part in the next Grand Prix event, Skate America 2026, from November 13 to 15.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that Samodelkina won a bronze medal at the international Denis Ten Memorial tournament in Almaty in women's singles. She scored 204.36 points across her two programs.
The winner of that competition was 2022 Olympic silver medalist Alexandra Ignatova (née Trusova) of Russia, competing in neutral status, with 226.01 points. South Korean figure skater Kim Yoo-jae took second place with 209.20 points.
In addition to Samodelkina, five other Kazakhstani women competed in the singles event. Nuriya Suleimen finished 14th with 122.40 points. Alika Khalimova placed 15th with 120.56 points, Amira Irmatova was 16th with 117.00 points. Zere Sarballina finished 18th with 108.73 points, and Amina Alekseeva took 19th place with 98.20 points.
