South Korea's Unification Minister Chung Dong-young has proposed talks with North Korea following a mine explosion in the demilitarized zone, according to infohub.kz.

According to The Korea Times, the head of South Korea's unification ministry suggested that Pyongyang hold talks to strengthen mutual understanding on the military demarcation line.

"As unification minister, I propose to the North: we must meet now and talk. We must at least begin communication, verify the demarcation line and inspect it again," Chung Dong-young told reporters.

According to Interfax, earlier this week South Korea demanded an apology and measures from North Korea over the recent explosion of what Seoul believes were North Korean mines in the demilitarized zone. Three South Korean soldiers were injured in the incident on September 21.

Meanwhile, the sister of the North Korean leader and head of the Central Committee department of the Workers' Party of Korea, Kim Yo-jong, said Pyongyang was not involved in the explosion and called Seoul's accusations "another provocation."
