South Korean President Lee Jae-myung expressed gratitude to Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev and the National Security Committee for their assistance in detaining criminals, reports infohub.kz.
In a post on his X account, Lee Jae-myung wrote in Kazakh that members of an organized crime group from South Korea, who had illegally entered Kazakhstan via Cambodia and Vietnam and engaged in phone fraud against their compatriots, were repatriated two weeks after their arrest and are now under investigation.
"The swift execution of the work, from detention to deportation, was made possible thanks to the active support and cooperation of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Qasym-Jomart Toqaev and the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan," Lee Jae-myung wrote.
He also expressed hope for a personal meeting with the Kazakh leader. "We express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Qasym-Jomart Toqaev and the relevant parties. We hope to have the opportunity to meet in person and express our gratitude at the Republic of Korea-Central Asia summit to be held next month. No exceptions will be made for crimes that threaten the safety and peaceful lives of the citizens of the Republic of Korea. Wherever they hide, we will find them and bring them to justice," the South Korean president emphasized.
Recall that on July 30, the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan reported the detention of 14 South Korean citizens suspected of fraud as part of an organized criminal group.
