South Korean scientists have developed an injectable treatment that can restore facial volume lost through rapid weight loss caused by popular drugs. Biotech company L&C Bio from South Korea has introduced an innovative development that processes donor fat tissue into an extracellular matrix. This matrix serves as a scaffold, allowing the patient's own fat cells to populate the treated areas and restore volume. Unlike the company's previous procedures based on donor skin, the new method is more effective and safer.
L&C Bio CEO Lee Wan-chul noted that the technology is already patented in South Korea, the US, and China. However, commercialization has been delayed due to legal restrictions: donor fat was considered medical waste in South Korea. After legislative changes in 2026, the company plans to bring the product to market in 2027.
Analyst Kim Mi-hyun from Morgan Stanley believes that recycling waste into raw materials will significantly increase industry profitability. This opens new prospects for the cosmetic market and could be a breakthrough in addressing the side effects of popular weight-loss methods.
