Exercising together, including simple walks, helps spouses communicate better, resolve conflicts peacefully, and reduce stress in marriage. That is the conclusion of scientists, according to infohub.kz.

Researchers from Brigham Young University analyzed survey data from nearly 1,700 young married couples. The results showed that working out as a couple benefits relationships more than exercising alone. About 60% of the husbands and wives surveyed said they exercise regularly, but only a third do so with their partner.

According to the scientists, shared activity creates natural conditions for dialogue. The most popular form of such activity turned out to be ordinary walking — it requires no gym membership fees. Participants in walks more often reported that their partners listened to them attentively and supported them.

The authors emphasize that exercise will not be a universal cure for all family problems. Nevertheless, regular walks or joint workouts give partners the opportunity to communicate constantly and maintain an emotional connection amid everyday routine and household chores.
