Just a few minutes of maximal-intensity exercise triggers a sharp surge in proteins and metabolites, altering interactions between muscles, fat tissue, and internal organs, reports infohub.kz.

The study, published in the journal Cell Reports Medicine, showed that exercise intensity dramatically affects signaling molecules in the blood. Researchers assessed the body's response of healthy participants to sprint interval training and moderate exercise.

Immediately after short sprints on a stationary bike, nearly a quarter of the 2,884 detected proteins changed their concentration. In contrast, after 90 minutes of moderate exercise, only seven proteins were affected. Metabolites showed a similar pattern: after sprinting, levels of lactate, succinate, and malate rose sharply.

According to the authors, short bursts of maximal activity stimulate the release of secretory proteins from skeletal muscles and actively impact fat tissue. Additionally, the scientists cross-referenced the obtained data with a health database and found 33 proteins associated with a reduced risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Almost all of these beneficial markers responded specifically to short, high-intensity exercise.
