The United States has made a new offer to Iran: Washington is prepared to supply Tehran with nuclear fuel in exchange for abandoning its own uranium enrichment program. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said this in an interview with Bloomberg, according to infohub.kz.
"We can supply (nuclear — ed.) fuel (to Iran — ed.) from abroad. They could rejoin the community of nations and bring peace and prosperity to their people," Wright said.
According to him, the United States has nearly completed building its own uranium supply chain. The energy secretary noted that his department is finalizing long-term agreements in uranium production and partnership cooperation.
"We prefer to negotiate. Or they can continue their secret, covert, hushed-up nuclear weapons program and confront the American military, which guarantees they will not develop nuclear weapons," Wright added.
In addition, the head of the US Department of Energy warned oil market participants against excessive optimism regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, a diplomatic breakthrough in relations with Iran should not be expected anytime soon. It is noted that currently about 10 million barrels of oil and petroleum products pass through the strait per day, which, taking into account alternative pipelines, amounts to only two-thirds of pre-crisis volumes. The minister emphasized that the current state of the global energy market remains extremely unstable and challenging.
Recall that earlier Donald Trump said Iran would never have nuclear weapons, and also threatened new strikes if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened.
