By the end of September, satellite internet will be available on 124 passenger trains operating on 50 routes across Kazakhstan, reports infohub.kz.
Kazakhstan's national railway company, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, continues to expand its project to equip trains with satellite communications. In 2025, the technology was tested on several routes, and since July 2026, large-scale deployment has begun. As of September 8, the Starlink system is already operating on 59 trains on 31 routes, covering more than 770 carriages.
"Introducing internet on trains is an important step towards improving the quality and comfort of passenger transportation," said Anuar Akhmetzhanov, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "Passenger Transportation".
Access speeds can reach up to 100 Mbps. The internet will work even on remote sections of the railway where terrestrial network coverage is limited. Passengers will be provided with a free basic package for text messaging in WhatsApp and Telegram. "For a wider range of internet services and larger data volumes, additional tariff packages are planned," the company added.
