Police in Stepnogorsk arrested a man suspected of stealing his ex-wife's car. According to investigators, following a drinking session, he took the Renault Scenic without permission, crashed it, and fled the scene... reports infohub.kz.
Police in the Akmola Region said the intoxicated man recalled having keys to his ex-wife's car. Assuming the vehicle was in its usual spot, he went to the parking lot and drove away without the owner's consent.
Shortly afterward, the woman filed a theft report with police.
An investigation revealed that the suspect had already been involved in a crash and had left the scene.
Officers located the man, arrested him, and brought him to the police station.
"A pre-trial investigation is underway. The circumstances of the incident are being established," the department said.
Earlier, Kursiv reported on a drunk resident of Pavlodar who stole a police car and crashed it. It later emerged that the man had also robbed a local store.
Another car theft was solved in just a few hours in Turkestan, where a perpetrator stole a journalist's vehicle. The day before, a resident of West Kazakhstan Region stole a tractor from a field to evade police.
