Media reports have emerged that Sultan Sarsemaliyev, sentenced to life in prison, has been moved from a general cell to solitary confinement. The Department of the Penitentiary System (DPES) for Atyrau region commented on the information, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the publication Ak Zhaik, citing sources, Sarsemaliyev was allegedly isolated in a pre-trial detention center in Atyrau. The sources suggested the decision may be linked to preventive security measures. They claimed that the facility's administration deemed it necessary to increase surveillance over the inmate due to concerns for his condition. Official confirmation or denial of this information has not yet been obtained.
The DPES for Atyrau region neither confirmed nor denied the reports. The department's press service stated that the inmate in question is serving his court-ordered sentence in a penal facility. "According to Article 15 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On Personal Data and Their Protection' and Article 93 of the Penal Enforcement Code of Kazakhstan, other information from inmates' personal files is not subject to disclosure," the DPES said.
Recall that on July 14, 2026, Sultan Sarsemaliyev was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a family of four in Atyrau region. The court also ordered him to pay 40 million tenge in compensation to the victims.
