Iranian military officials said a supertanker caught fire after hitting mines in the Strait of Hormuz while attempting to pass through an unauthorized route, according to infohub.kz.
The report, citing Tasnim, said members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the incident.
"Several hours ago, a supertanker that violated the rules and attempted to pass illegally in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz caught fire after striking two naval mines and was completely stopped," the military statement said.
The IRGC reminded that compliance with the rules established by naval forces for passage and movement is mandatory.
"Shipping companies should not succumb to provocations by the American army (...) and should not expose their property and the lives of their crews to unjustified risk," the military warned.
It is recalled that a few days ago, the head of the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), Brad Cooper, announced the clearing of mines from the Strait of Hormuz that had been laid by the Iranian side.
Today, the United States struck Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz to prevent the laying of naval mines. Iran has claimed a retaliatory strike on U.S. airbases in Jordan.
