A 32-year-old man has been detained in Kazakhstan's capital on suspicion of a series of frauds disguised as investments in tender projects. The damage from his actions is estimated at about 35 million tenge, with 11 victims, according to infohub.kz.
According to the investigation, the suspect posted advertisements on social media platforms TikTok and Threads promising high-yield investments. Interested users were offered to invest money during video calls, with promises of official cooperation and quick profits.
To appear credible, the suspect signed notarized contracts with clients. However, after receiving substantial sums, he failed to fulfill his obligations and used the money at his own discretion.
The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility. Police are conducting a pre-trial investigation and checking his possible involvement in other similar crimes.
The police urged citizens to be vigilant: verify information about investment projects, do not trust promises of guaranteed high returns, and do not transfer money to strangers.
Earlier it was reported that fraudsters use fake investment platforms, where they first allow a small withdrawal of allegedly earned profits. After that, the victim is persuaded to increase their investment, and when attempting to withdraw a large sum, they are required to pay taxes, commissions, or insurance. The National Bank reminded that its employees do not offer investment products to citizens and do not conduct transactions with the public.
