Switzerland is exploring the possibility of opening regular direct air service with Kazakhstan. According to the results of talks between the two countries' aviation authorities held in Astana, the necessary legal framework has already been established, infohub.kz reports.
"The Swiss side said it sees prospects in developing direct air service between the two countries and is currently considering the possibility of opening regular flights to Kazakhstan. The development of direct air service between Kazakhstan and Switzerland will create additional opportunities for strengthening tourism, trade, economic and business ties between the two countries, as well as increasing mutual passenger and business flows," the statement said.
To enable the possible launch of flights, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding. The document provides for the right of designated airlines to operate up to 28 passenger flights per week.
"The parties also agreed and initialed the text of a draft air service agreement for its subsequent signing, which will form an updated legal basis for the further development of air service between Kazakhstan and Switzerland," the authority added.
Earlier it was reported that Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia agreed to increase the number of flights between the countries.
