ZHANAOZEN, Kazakhstan — Symbat Toretayev has been appointed as the new akim of the city of Zhanaozen in the Mangystau Region, succeeding Zhanseit Kainarbayev in the post, infohub.kz reports.
The appointment was announced by the press service of the Mangystau Region akimat. According to the official statement, the decision was made in coordination with the Administration of the President of Kazakhstan and formalized by an order of Nurdauler Kilybay, akim of the Mangystau Region.
"In coordination with the Administration of the President of Kazakhstan, by order of Nurdauler Kilybay, akim of the Mangystau Region, Symbat Toretayev has been appointed akim of the city of Zhanaozen," the regional akimat said in its statement.
Symbat Kuanyshuly Toretayev was born on January 27, 1978, in the village of Zhetibai in the Yeraliyev district of the Mangystau Region. He began his career in 2000 at the Mangystau Region Internal Affairs Department, where he served as an operative of the Organized Crime Control Department. He later worked as a senior operative and as a senior operative for especially important cases.
From 2017 to 2019, Toretayev headed the counterterrorism department of the Mangystau Region akim's office. From 2019 to 2023, he served as deputy akim of the Karakiyan district. From May 2023 until this appointment, he headed the Karakiyan district as akim.
It is worth noting that Zhanseit Kainarbayev had held the post of akim of Zhanaozen since 2024.
