A man in Taiwan who suspected his wife of infidelity used a robot vacuum to spy on her and found evidence of her affair, but ended up behind bars himself, reports infohub.kz.
The man married in 2021, and two years later began to suspect his wife of cheating. The couple lived with the man's parents, but went to a country house for holidays. One day he found an extra toothbrush there, which heightened his suspicions.
Later, the man remotely activated the robot vacuum to send an audio message to his wife. However, the live feed from the device showed the woman with another man. Armed with this evidence, the Taiwanese man sued his wife and her lover for violating his marital rights. The civil court ruled that they must pay the deceived husband 500,000 Taiwan dollars (about 7 million tenge).
However, the woman filed a counterclaim for invasion of privacy. Under Taiwan law, recording or disclosing another person's private life without permission is punishable by up to three years in prison and a fine of up to 300,000 Taiwan dollars. In the end, the court sentenced the deceived husband to five months in prison and a fine of 150,000 Taiwan dollars (about 2 million tenge).
The court ruled that "marital obligations do not negate a person's right to privacy."
