Law enforcement in the Talgar district of the Almaty region, which has been identified as the most troubled area in the region, have stepped up their presence and achieved a drop in crime. This is reported by infohub.kz.
According to police, additional forces were deployed to Talgar this year to improve the crime situation, and patrol routes were revised to cover areas requiring increased attention. As a result, crime fell by 26.1%. In real terms, around 1,000 criminal offenses are now registered in the district, more than 350 fewer than last year's figures.
"The crimes registered in the district have indeed often been on the public's mind. Among them, the particularly high-profile cases fell into the category of offenses committed on the streets, as well as robberies and hooliganism. In recent months, the number of robberies has more than halved, hooliganism has fallen by 48.6%, and street crime by 22.5%," said Nurzhan Rakhmetullayev, head of the Talgar district police department.
Law enforcement officers also identified the most crime-prone areas in Talgar, including Qonaev, Lermontov and Bokin streets, and the areas near the Alpina, Talgar Plaza and Maidanbek shopping centers. Enhanced patrols have been organized there, and to improve effectiveness, police crews are rotated every two hours.
In addition, authorities have tightened control on local roads, with a priority on identifying drunk drivers. To date, 108 people in the Talgar district have been caught committing such offenses and have faced arrests and seven-year license revocations.
Recall that high-profile crimes have occurred in Talgar and the district. A minor, Sherzat Bolat, was killed in the city. Other crimes have also occurred there since.
