A tanker carrying a large shipment of oil struck a naval mine in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz. An explosion erupted on board, reports infohub.kz.

According to RBC, the Iranian agency Tasnim published information from the press service of the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) about the tanker hitting a mine. The tanker, with 750,000 barrels of crude oil on board, was reportedly attempting to pass through an unauthorized route despite warnings from Iranian military forces.

The tanker became the third vessel to strike a naval mine in the Strait of Hormuz on October 11.

IRNA adds that the mine explosion on board the supertanker triggered a fire in the engine room.

The IRGC specifies that while attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz, the tanker completely disabled its onboard Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) and navigation sensors, grossly violating international navigation rules and deviating from the agreed safe corridor into a closed zone. In response, the Iranian side issued a strict warning, stating that any vessel in the strait area concealing its navigation data would be automatically classified as hostile and subjected to exhaustive measures.

Recall that Donald Trump previously stated that the conflict with Iran would be resolved in the near future, as the country no longer poses a nuclear threat to the United States.
