A court in Taraz has sentenced a moped driver to 20 days in jail for attempting to flee from police. The man was intoxicated and had never held a driver's license, according to Polisia.kz, as reported by infohub.kz.
Police on patrol spotted the offender riding a moped without license plates on K. Turysov Street. He ignored orders to stop and attempted to flee, but was quickly apprehended.
During the stop, officers observed signs of intoxication. A medical examination confirmed a moderate level of alcohol impairment. It also emerged that the man had never obtained a driver's license.
Authorities filed administrative charges against the offender for driving under the influence, driving without a license, and disobeying lawful police orders.
The court ordered a 20-day arrest, and the moped was impounded.
As a reminder, in April 2025 Kazakhstan reclassified mopeds as motor vehicles. Drivers are now required to register the vehicle, obtain a license, display license plates, and purchase mandatory insurance.
