A high-profile case involving a fight in a school locker room has concluded in Zhambyl Region: a specialized interdistrict court for juvenile affairs has sentenced a teenager for beating a tenth-grader who lost an eye as a result. The website infohub.kz reports.
The investigation and trial lasted seven months. The court found that the blow received by the victim led to a severe injury and complete loss of vision. The defendant, identified in the materials as K., was found guilty and sentenced to seven years in prison.
The injured schoolboy has already undergone seven surgeries, and now his second eye is losing vision. The teenager, who dreamed of becoming a doctor, has fallen into depression. His mother said she cannot forgive this and insists on punishment for all participants in the attack.
“Of course, I will file an appeal, and I will continue to demand that everyone be punished. Yes, all participants, because it was a group attack. That's what we said from the beginning, and it's known to everyone. Therefore, I believe that the others should also be punished,” said the schoolboy's mother, Zukhra Karimova.
The convicted teenager, who had been under house arrest all this time, was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs. Witnesses say he was crying but admitted his guilt only partially.
Recall that the tenth-grader was injured during a clash with several ninth-graders during a break. According to the victim, he was called into the men's locker room for a talk that ended in a beating and his eye being knocked out. He still does not know what he was hit with.
“Our second lesson had ended, and we were going to the next. A ninth-grader was walking ahead and pushed my shoulder. In the locker room, they immediately started beating me. When I fell, something had already happened to my eye. I didn't see what the blow was,” said the teenager.
The boy's knocked-out eye was literally pieced together. According to his mother, medical professionals all say the same: the blow was very severe, and the consequences are already irreversible.
