In Ust-Kamenogorsk, a taxi driver prevented a major fraud against an elderly passenger, reports infohub.kz.
The head of the Police Department of the East Kazakhstan Region, Major General of Police Yerlan Omarbekov, met with taxi driver Torezhan Adabietov, who, thanks to his vigilance and compassion, did not allow phone scammers to steal more than 1.5 million tenge from a pensioner.
A video taken inside the car appeared on social media. The footage shows the driver addressing the woman in the back seat: "If they ask for a code, don't tell them, they might be scammers." Then the taxi driver takes the pensioner's phone and talks to the fraudsters himself: "Hello, mom? Yes, brother. — Is this your mom? — Yes, what's the matter? — You wanted to deceive her, right, for money?"
Yerlan Omarbekov expressed sincere gratitude to Torezhan for his brave act, active civic position, and personal contribution to preventing the crime. He emphasized that it is such people who become true helpers of the police in the fight against fraud and serve as an example for others.
"Today, scammers increasingly use modern technologies and methods of psychological influence, so our common task is not only to solve such crimes but also to prevent them. Only by joining the efforts of the police, society, and every conscious citizen can we effectively counter crime and protect our compatriots," noted the head of the DP of the East Kazakhstan Region.
