American tennis player Taylor Fritz, Elena Rybakina's regular mixed doubles partner, has moved up to eighth in the ATP world rankings after winning the Washington Open, reports infohub.kz.

The release of the latest men's rankings, like the women's, was moved from Monday to Tuesday due to weather: heavy rain delayed the final of the ATP-500 Mubadala DC Open.

In the end, Taylor Fritz won the tournament in Washington, defeating Rafael Khodar in the final 7:6 (7:2), 6:4. The American moved up from 10th to 8th place, while the Spaniard rose from 24th to 15th.

Our tennis fans have a special attitude towards the successes of the 28-year-old Fritz. Taylor, who twice won the Eisenhower Cup exhibition with Elena Rybakina, last year took part in the experimental mixed doubles at the US Open-2025 together with our Snow Queen.

The Kazakh-American pair did not achieve glory, losing in the first round to the future winners Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori. However, the organizers invited the likable duo to play mixed doubles at the US Open-2026 as well. The competition will take place on August 25-26, before the start of the main major.

It is clear that the victory in mixed doubles will most likely be won by specialists in the pair. Czech Katerina Siniakova with Briton Henry Patten, for example. The top-ranked doubles players. But the invitation of star singles duos like Rybakina/Fritz, Sabalenka/Djokovic, Swiatek/Ruud, Andreeva/Rublev and others carries an exclusively media component. Still, it will be interesting!

This week, the pulse of tennis life beats in the Maple Leaf country, where men's and women's tournaments have started as part of the Canadian Open.

The tournament dates back to 1881. That was when its first predecessor, a men's tournament, took place. And 11 years later, a women's tournament.

In even years, the women's tournament is held in Toronto, and the men's in Montreal. Since 2011, these hard-court competitions, part of the US Open Series, have been held simultaneously.

The current WTA-1000 in Toronto and ATP-1000 in Montreal are officially called the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers. The men's prize money is $9.4 million.

In the men's draw, American Ben Shelton will defend his title, having defeated Karen Khachanov of Russia in last year's final 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 7:6 (7:3).

Previous winners include Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Andre Agassi, Andrei Chesnokov, Marat Safin, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner and other famous tennis players.

Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik (11), as has been his tradition in recent years, is not playing in early August. He prefers to be with his family and son Vasily (who turns 4) on his birthday. Alexander Shevchenko (89) went to Montreal but lost in qualifying to Frenchman Kyrian Jacquet (121) – 6:4, 4:6, 3:6.
