American singer Taylor Swift has donated $50,000 (about 23.3 million tenge) to a Rhode Island woman who was seriously injured while saving teenagers after a highway accident, reports infohub.kz.

The incident occurred on July 18 during a heavy downpour on Interstate 95 in Hopkinton. Ashley Taunton witnessed a car carrying teenagers lose control and veer off the road. She immediately stopped and rushed to help the victims.

While she was helping the young people out of the vehicle, another car also lost control and headed straight toward them. As Ashley's husband recounted, at the last moment she pushed one of the teenagers out of the way, taking the impact herself.

As a result, Taunton suffered a severe leg injury and serious internal damage. Her small and large intestines were affected, and she sustained lacerations to her liver and diaphragm, causing one lung to collapse. She required at least three surgeries.

Throughout her recovery, Ashley shared details on social media. She posted photos from the hospital, where she was in a medically induced coma, and later showed herself returning home with a leg brace.

Ashley learned about Swift's donation on Friday and admitted she did not expect such help. On social media, she called the singer's gesture incredible and thanked her for the support.

The $50,000 donation will go toward covering medical expenses for the woman who risked her own life to pull others from a dangerous situation.
