A court in Aktobe has completed the trial of a minor accused of killing his mother and attacking his grandmother. The teenager, who suffers from a mental disorder, will undergo compulsory treatment in a specialized psychiatric hospital, according to the website infohub.kz.
The tragedy occurred on December 2, 2025, in an apartment in the center of Aktobe. An 11th-grade student attacked his 41-year-old mother, inflicting injuries incompatible with life. His 72-year-old grandmother was also injured and hospitalized, but her life was saved.
Neighbors who heard screams from the apartment called the police. Officers arrived and detained the teenager. During the investigation, it was revealed that the family was considered well-off: the young man attended a private school, performed well academically, and neighbors described him as polite and well-mannered. He also has two younger brothers.
The court hearings were held without the defendant's presence, as he had been in a psychiatric clinic throughout the proceedings. A forensic psychologist noted that signs of the illness might have gone unnoticed by his family, but a school psychologist, in her opinion, could have noticed them.
The teenager's grandmother, who was a victim in the case, told the court that she had not noticed anything unusual about her grandson before. "My grandson is good, he always helped me, played with the younger ones, I am very worried about him. There were no complaints about him. I don't know what happened that night," the publication quotes her as saying.
The court found the teenager guilty of murder and attempted murder but released him from criminal liability due to mental illness. As a compulsory medical measure, he was ordered to undergo treatment in a psychiatric hospital.
Earlier, a similar ruling was issued by a court in the Akmola region regarding a resident of the Arshaly district accused of killing his family.
