A minor lost his arm at a building materials plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk, where he worked without official registration, Infohub.kz reports.
Bakytbek Kizatov, head of the East Kazakhstan regional department of the Committee for State Labor Inspection, confirmed the incident. According to preliminary information, the victim had not been issued an employment contract and had not undergone occupational safety training.
"A commission has been set up and an investigation is under way. We will inform you of the results," Kizatov said at a briefing.
The East Kazakhstan Regional Police Department has also launched a pre-trial investigation under Part 2 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code, which provides for liability for violation of labor safety rules.
The labor inspectorate noted a slight increase in occupational injuries in the region: 45 incidents in the first half of last year compared to 55 in the same period of 2026.
The highest number of victims was in Ust-Kamenogorsk, followed by Shemonaikha, Ridder and Altai.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that a resident of Kostanay lost several fingers while working as a miller without an employment contract. The employer denied the existence of an employment relationship, but the court established that the man had worked at the enterprise from February 1 to March 31, 2026, and ordered the company to pay 3 million tenge in compensation for moral damages. The court decision has not yet entered into legal force.
